Napa Valley Petroleum is a locally trusted name providing fuel and energy services throughout Napa, CA. With over 70 years of service to residential, agricultural, and commercial clients, they’ve built a reputation grounded in reliability, community, and deep industry expertise.
When they approached me to redesign their website, it wasn’t our first collaboration—in fact, I had built their first website over 13 years ago. That project was my first mobile-responsive coding experience, and this latest version continues our partnership into a new digital era.
A Brighter, More Modern Experience
The goal for this redesign was to modernize both the look and technical foundation of their website. The previous version had served them well but had become outdated in both aesthetics and functionality. Key challenges included:
- A cluttered and hard-to-navigate menu
- Limited use of imagery and white space
- A back-end WordPress setup that had been patched together over time, making updates and improvements increasingly difficult
The new website is built from scratch in WordPress, using a fully custom, mobile-responsive design. Visually, it offers a much brighter and more spacious feel, featuring bold blue tones—modernized from their brand’s original palette—and complementary greens that nod to Napa Valley’s agricultural landscape.
Strategic Design Decisions
One of the primary improvements was reorganizing the header and navigation. With more service pages and customer resources like the FAQ and Account Login, a traditional single-row menu was no longer practical. I implemented a dual-navigation system that is clear, well-spaced, and elegantly collapses on mobile devices.
Other updates included:
- Enhanced and beautifully styled online forms for new accounts, deliveries, and inquiries
- Clear calls-to-action on every page
- Simplified content for improved readability and SEO performance
- Fast, secure WordPress infrastructure with room for future growth
