How We Brought the Heart of Hanks Farmer Market Online – In Two Languages

How do you bottle the charm of a neighborhood farmer’s market—and make it accessible, up-to-date, and bilingual? That’s the challenge Hanks Farmer Market brought to my digital doorstep. With daily specials across three locations, and a clientele that speaks both English and Spanish, they needed more than just a pretty site. They needed a workhorse that looked like a show pony. Here’s how we made it happen.

The Challenge

Imagine this: you’ve got three stores, rotating weekly deals, daily chalkboard specials, and a bilingual audience. The staff needs to update these promos every week—quickly, clearly, and without jumping through hoops. On top of that, the site needed to look fresh, work flawlessly on mobile, and feel like Hanks: warm, welcoming, and full of flavor.

The Strategy

We built a fully custom WordPress site that speaks their language—literally and figuratively.

  • Custom Dashboard Fields: Staff can update deals for each location with simple, clear input fields in both English and Spanish.
  • Conditional Logic: If there’s no special today, the chalkboard graphic just disappears—no awkward empty sections, no extra steps.
  • Bilingual UX: Every piece of the site—menus, banners, homepage deals—is mirrored in Spanish and English.
  • Responsive Design: Built for busy shoppers checking deals from their phones.
  • Chalkboard-Inspired Design: We created a daily-deals section that looks like the handwritten specials you’d see in-store—dynamic, yet brand-aligned.
  • SEO Optimization: We baked in the keywords to help them get discovered by more shoppers looking for grocery store specials in Southern California.

The Outcome

Now, Hanks has a site that’s easy to run and easy to love. The staff can update all three stores’ specials in minutes. Customers can find deals, browse in their preferred language, and get a real feel for the community spirit of Hanks before they even set foot inside.

And me? I’m proud we created a site that blends utility with personality. That’s what good design should do.

Takeaway

If you think a grocery store website just needs hours and address info, think again. Hanks Farmer Market now has a digital front door that invites people in, keeps them informed, and builds loyalty—all while saving staff time. If you’re a small business juggling daily updates and multilingual content, there’s a better way.
